Blackberry trackball

You need a white one, the black one that comes with the uConsole and the black ones on ali are bad.

The listing on ali I got has been removed, so I ordered a bunch of other white ones, will report back here when they arrive end of Jan.

On the right… sorry for glare the border is white plastic instead of metal…

But maybe I was lucky in the aliexpress lottery

My stock one works fine. No different than the blackberry trackballs I’ve used in the past.

The little wheels on my stock one were all rusted. I cleaned them with isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip and it’s a lot better

So then it truly is a lottery.

My Devterm is not great but functions if I move it slowly, don’t have my uConsole yet, order got stuck in a paperwork stack, supposed to be next batch.

There was nothing wrong with mine, but I had bought an orange one off amazon before the uConsole showed up. It fit in and works great. I also like the hint of color.

I just received my uConsole today. The trackball will only move the pointer horizontally in one direction. I flipped it over and now it moves in the opposite direction, so I’m sure it’s the trackball rather than a problem with the interface on the keyboard.

Before seeing this post I ordered a 5 pack of the black ones from AliExpress. They had a new customer deal so I got a 5 pack for about $1. Hopefully at least one of the five is good. Does anyone have a link for the white ones?

There is an orientation for the trackball.

I just search for blackberry trackball on aliexpress.

So… Which ones should we look for?
Pics or links would be cool. Seems like everyone has different opinions so it would be very helpful if those who have ordered a specific color could share their experience.
How does it move?
How does it feel to the touch?
Does the color have an impact on the feel or quality?

I had the same trouble and replaced my devterm trackball. This topic has some details:

My uConsole is fine, and so is my devterm now. I think you probably have to buy as many as you need to in order to get a good one. I ended up spending a bit more for mine. I don’t think the colour makes much difference, although I suspect the black ones have a grippier surface that grabs the little wheels better.

I have ordered a bunch and will post back here when they arrive end of Jan.

There is no point leaving old links to products on aliexpress since they remove listings… I will post them once I receive the parcels only because this is the only way you can do it order as many different as possible and post listings with quality fast when they arrive before they are removed… aliexpress lottery

Nothing is what is advertised… I tried the best looking ones and they work, better than all previous ones… but maybe this page will redirect to something else tomorrow: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32809078191.html

I mean it looks nothing like the ali store pictures:

Edit: Now shipping is 5x as expensive on this… just like predicted the lottery does not last. Good luck out there!

Anyone buying these in quantity? Just thinking that maybe there are a couple extra, my devterm needs one, and my uconsole if it ever arrives.

Just to let everyone know my trackball was fine. I still think I will buy some of these AliExpress trackballs just in case (doesn’t seem like they’re meant to be opened and cleaned, so if mine goes bad, I will need spares… of course, it might be years before that happens)

It felt sticky to the touch at first, but the more I used it, the better it felt. I would say, get a bunch of the Ali trackballs (hoping some are good) but do not hurry to replace your base trackball. Use it and fiddle with the mouse settings. Try to “break it down” and see if it improves with usage.
Not sure if this helped but I did rub the trackball against my shirt (clean shirt) before instaling it. I did the same with the bottom of the trackball and lightly pressed the rollers to make sure everything was in place. Maybe it’s superstition, maybe it helped, maybe not… but I did that before installing it, so there is that.

Wish you all the fortune of a good trackball and do not lose hope. Your uConsole will arrive. (Mine took 10 months).

Speaking of “lottery” … I just ordered a ten-pack of those trackballs from AliExpress, hopefully at least one of them will work better than the one that came in the box with my new uConsole (which physically feels rough, like there’s dust or something inside of it, and which doesn’t register movements about 75% of the time, especially when I try to move “up” on the screen).

BUT, I found it interesting that different browsers on the same computer (Firefox and Safari) showed me different prices ($8.36 and $9.36) before I created an account, and then after creating an account it showed me a lower price ($5.38) … it ended up charging me Florida sales tax, but apparently free shipping (the amount they charged my card was $5.73).

I’ve never bought anything directly from China before, should I be worried about them trying to charge me again after the fact for shipping, or “tariffs”, or anything else? (I paid using “Apple Pay” so, from what I understand, they don’t actually have a card number that they can charge against without my approving it on my phone first.)

yes aliexpress charges taxes, they won’t charge you again for tariffs, if you get charged for tariffs the shipper will contact you separately and charge you tariffs and a handling fee

Wonder if you could get one of the trackpad ones to work in there. Might be a lot nicer.

I had several uConsoles. Some are fine trackball, other need some love…for those I ordered EVQWJN007 you will get it from amazon and Co too. works perfectly.
