DevTerm Production Status Update

Guys. Been a long day for me. So I’ll have to keep it simple.
Like I promised before, all orders will be sent to our shipping partner before the end of October, that won’t change. But seems like our shipping partner will need more time to process our shipping request this time, because the international express service has been under extremly high volume for more than a month. They even refused to collect packages for several times. We’ve verified this information via different sources, it’s true.
Now, I do have the tracking numbers of another batch in my hand, but I’ll have to hold them for a little while since our shipping partner is still trying to secure the schedule.
But don’t worry too much. This situation won’t last long. I’ll start to upload tracking numbers when I hear from them.

Yeah. This is all any of the reasonable ones of us wanted. We know you cant work miracles. The pandemic happened and fucked everything up for everybody. Sure I want my cool things and I want them now, but I understand the circumstances. The former lack of communication from the team was very off putting, but you’ve more then made up for it, and proven yourself to be a diplomatic and charismatic representative for your brand. Your updates, and communication have more then restored my faith in ClockworkPi!

I would much rather have a conservative estimate than something you cannot live up to so please don’t feel the need to give optimistic estimates. I don’t need my devterm for anything time sensitive and I can’t imagine anybody else does either, especially not since it’s been delayed.

As long as it arrives eventually you could give me a date next year as far as I am concerned, as long as that date doesn’t change. Also please don’t rush for my sake. I understand that you have whinier customers, but I don’t like the idea of people working around the clock to meet some arbitrary deadline for my sake.

Also, please consider overestimating your deadlines for future products, and please consider using something more easily navigated than a forum thread for status updates.

even for A04 units?
Actually, if the issue is with OS, I don’t mind have it earlier. I will find some OS to run, or just type on it.
I am not happy with delays, but I understand the difficulty. I don’t blame anyone, but next time, tell us about the priority of your work flow. I feel that we paid less than A06 buyers so we get less of a timely response or service. This sucks.

I’m not going to lie - I feel the same. Most of the attention seems to have gone to the A06 buyers, and us A04 folks have been put on the sidelines. All the news is about A06 batches being sent, and I’m seeing people who ordered some time after me are getting their devices shipped before mine, just because they ordered the A06.

For a device that was supposed to start shipping in March 2021, I’m going to consider myself lucky if it arrives before March 2022. That being said, if it gets to New Year and no news, I may well cancel my order.

lol, I see all of you whining about “late” order. Please remember that you bought a computer in covid crisis and on the middle of electronic parts shortage.
Stop crying like kids on the mall

Agreed. I found the intense focus on A06 with almost no mention at all of A04 quite tough. My thinking when I ordered (a year ago!) was that the lower-powered unit would have better battery life, but I was on the fence. If it had said “A04 will ship 6 months after A06”, I think my calculus would have been a bit different. =)

None of this was news to the entire supply chain, but never once after I placed an order that was shipping in April did I get a follow up message admitting it could be April of 2022. Everyone has their own views and expectations. But if I hadn’t trawled the forums for information, I would literally have none. I have never received an update email about the order. Dismissing everyone who is frustrated with the consumer side of the process is no more mature than the “kids” you deride.

I agree with this; it’s weird to have your product be one year later than advertised and only tell people about it who happen to go to the forums and trawl through pretty long threads. That’s not a great way to run things.

I think most of the people complaining would have complained a lot less if they had received an early email saying to expect massive delays due to reasons x y z and then periodic email updates as things progressed. I ordered another product, the Flipper, simultaneously and it suffered similar delays and their communication has been much better.

guys, Alex has talked about the A04. we know about the A04. looks like they finally finished the OS for it not even that long ago. You don’t have to wait for this product. You know you can cancel right? Honestly if there weren’t so many entitled complaints on this form you might be able to actually see the posts relevant to you.

I think people generally feel entitled to something they paid for, and generally have different views and expectations. Just because you don’t agree with someone doesn’t mean either of you are right or wrong. And complaining about the noise caused by complaining just adds to the noise

Sure hope the forum for the devterm itself ends up being this active!

We know there will be A04s, but are no closer to knowing when they’ll be ready to send than we were a year ago. No projected shipping date, no nothing other than “watch this space”. Meanwhile, A06s are arriving in buyers’ hands. The news we’ve been getting has been primarily focussed on the A06, with an occasional tidbit on the A04.

As for “you don’t have to wait”… waiting is exactly what we’re doing. People are getting frustrated. I’m sure you’re a model of patience and beatific behaviour, but the rest of us are only human.

imo, frustration is to be expected and understandable, only becomes a problem worth discussing when disrespect comes into the equation. so far anyone crossing that line rightly deserves a mute, but there’s nothing inherently wrong in feeling disappointed or frustrated and wanting to talk about it with people. i’ll make a waiting for devterm thread!

Ha, @Nubbins … If you want activity on a DevTerm post just title it “DevTerm Shipping Updates (and side question…)”

I share the anxiousness and degree of frustration with those who haven’t received their units, but not to the point of being upset with the ClockworkPi staff. I work in the software/tech industry and there are far worse supply chain situations than a 6 ~ 8 months delay in some sectors. Also, this is 100% a niche product and not a necessity so, aside from the aforementioned anxiousness, it really isn’t impeding anyone’s daily life to have to wait longer for it. We’re human and I know exactly what it feels like to get excited…then bummed that there’s an added delay. But it all is made up by the product’s coolness and attention to detail, as well as the continued updates (as of late, anyway).

The only thing I would have changed about the process is to have had waited until all units were ready, then ship in order. I realize that would have meant longer wait times for those with CM3 and A06 orders (I’m in the latter category), but it would have provided a perception of fairness. Since all of these were paid for in advance, that would have made little difference to ClockworkPi (in contrast to traditional back-orders with traditional retailers were the money is charged when the items or shipped/become available).

your feelings are real, and valid. but saying that we are no closer to knowing anything about A04s before a year ago is just complete and total bullshit. Alex literally posted about it the other day. Chill with the hyperbole.

Your mom’s not here to give you what you want just because you want to throw a fit about it in the store.

People get really into their idea of “fairness”. Sure, shipping everything at the same time can be perceived as “fair” to us, but we don’t know what this could impose on the ClockworkPi team. for all we know they might not even have enough room to even store every single one of our devterms as they wait to have every single one. also mailing a lot of things in small batches is going to be way less of a hassle then trying to get it all done in one massive push. although that last one might be a matter of preference.

There’s been all kinds of circumstances that have popped up to delay the shipping of this and a lot of other fun shit I’ve been looking foreword to finally getting my hands on all of this pandemic. Clockwork isn’t the only one experiencing delays.

Fair enough! (pun intended) We don’t know if this would have been easier or worse for their team to handle…but it was a situation they could have very likely had to deal with anyhow if the “less likely” scenario of a supply-chain and manufacturing-crippling pandemic wouldn’t have been a thing. Surely it was in their radar at some point in time that they could be in possession of the majority of the parts, all at once. The only difference here was an unpredictable global bottleneck, not a pre-planned out-of-order staggered manufacturing scenario.

Either way, it was meant as feedback on an alternate way to go about…not meant to demonize their decision. I’m not in the A04 group so I would be seeing my unit later than I am, which I think would be fair to someone who ordered an A04 before I placed my order. I think that is a perfectly fair notion.

I said we’re no closer to knowing when we’ll get them than we were a year ago, which is true. You might need to stop and read all the words in a post before trying to insult a person through his mother.
