Dwarf Fortress (Steam Version) on the uConsole CM4

I managed to get Dwarf Fortress running via WINE and Box64 (installed using PiApps on the Debian Bookworm image). Setup was relatively simple: I dragged the files from my Windows Steam setup into the simulated C: Drive. Steam is very slow on the CM4 but since I am bypassing Steam entirely the performance is surprisingly decent.

If your keyboard input in WINE isn’t detected in some apps (like Dwarf Fortress), there’s a quick registry fix that solved the problem for me:

  • Open Regedit
  • Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver, creating a new Key named “X11 Driver” if it does not exist.
  • Create a new string titled “UseTakeFocus” with the value “N”

In case you’re worried that it’s just a still image, here’s a video of it in action. Haven’t done anything heavy duty yet but seems reasonable. Dwarf Fortress running on a uConsole CM4 - Album on Imgur
