I love seeing where people took this conversation and I am sorry I haven’t updated it with new info as it came. I just added:
IMPORTANT EDIT: A CM5 used with third-party boards that offer NVMe or other advanced features MAY NOT WORK with the first generation of these risers. Waveshare released a specific CM5 version of this riser, and it’s best to choose that. I was using it myself until I printed a custom case.
