Hi guys,
I’ve been playing around with my uConsole and customizing it for a while now. The one thing I bought that really changed my experience is lulu’s touchpad keyboard kit (@lululvlv).
Unfortunately, the black colored front cover he made for this keyboard wasn’t in stock. I really didn’t want to wait, and I definitely didn’t want to file down my original case to make it fit. So, I took some measurements of the trackpad kit, modified the uConsole’s open-source case STEP files, then ordered a custom cover CNC’d by JLCPCB. It ended up fitting perfectly!
A few key details about the design:
-
Original Aesthetics: I kept the original look without any extra decorative stuff. I just adjusted the hole size to fit the trackpad.
-
CNC Optimized: I removed the ring bump on the back to make it smoother for CNC manufacturing.
-
Module Slot: I added an extra slot on the back for the trackpad module, which works with the 3D-printed riser that comes with the trackpad keyboard kit.
For my final build, I chose 6061 Aluminum with Hard Anodizing. I also ordered an SLA 3D-printed version for my initial fit test, which worked great. FDM 3D printing should work fine as well, though I haven’t personally tried it yet.
