I agree with your point. I am a beginner who has just started exploring Raspberry Pi and have no prior programming experience. In fact, one of the reasons I’m considering ordering the uConsole is its beautifully designed metal casing. Based on the review videos, it has a great texture and appearance. I also enjoy trying out DIY projects that interest me, and for a personal device, this casing alone is worth the price.
In Chinese idioms, there is a phrase that perfectly describes someone like me—a complete outsider: “买椟还珠” (mǎi dú huán zhū).
It literally means “buying the ornate box but returning the pearl,” referring to someone who values the superficial appearance while overlooking the true essence!
Maybe just that the scalpers are still stuck with inventory and not buying hundreds at a time, but it does seem faster for most recent orders. That said there are still a few people that are stuck are 9 months, which doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone that hasn’t received after that long needs to ask where things are, more recent orders are arriving and they should have been in line earlier.
It’s hard to make an estimate but based on your answer, we could advise you to ask Alex for an update. It might speed things up or not, but at least you won’t be 100% in the dark.
My order took 10-11 months to arrive. I would say it’s not uncommon for that to happen. Now, if someone with your same specs received his/her uConsole before yours, then do write Alex.
If there is a queue then it should not happen. Yes, depending on availability his order should be ready in less time but not ship before yours
There is a distrust that the country of production is in China and that the headquarters cannot control the producers. It feels like the producers are shipping to their own country’s online shopping sites and neglecting the orders of individual customers.
For now, I have obtained the cm4 core. It seems that if you order without a core and only with Wi-Fi, it will be shipped in about 60 days. If I order next month, I won’t be able to get it until at least June. Well, I don’t know how the production pace will be.
I think the best thing we can do (for now) is to just… forget we ordered it. That’s how I managed to have some peace oof mind the first 8 months.
Should it be like that? No, I think the proccess should be more transparent. At least we can be sure it’s not a scam. I’m gonna bump from time to time my post about delivery timelines so that new customers can be aware of the delivery times.
Being in the dark really sucks.
Also, I believe the right decission is to order the no-core + wifi version. As I said in another post… The core version should be removed and guide buyers to the right modules to buy for the uConsole.
The uConsole should market not as a portable computer but as a portable and elegant device cappable of accepting a CM4 and CM5.
If there is stock, we will deliver it as quickly as possible to process it, and if not, we will have to produce a certain amount and deliver it all at once. We are frustrated because that process is opaque and irregular.
