Kali 6.12.y for the uConsole and DevTerm

Any SDR functionality at all with the AIO board on Kali?

I’m not sure I don’t use kali. Besides getting an image out, I just install whatever tools I need on plain Debian.

This has me too, fresh install. But, i am getting dependancy errors, so I cant get the HG AIO V2 setup properly.

Im gonna have to do some digging.

Honestly I don’t even need meshtastic working on the AIO. If I could get Kali and SDR functionality, that would be great. Anyone done it yet?

Rex’s Kali is great, Getting it setup for the AIO v1 and v2 has been a pain. Its a matter of depreciation and tweaking to get it JUST RIGHT. I have not had much success getting past a simple apt update && apt upgrade. I had to comment out the re4son-kernel sources to get that far.

I have been away from Linux for a LONG time, my last REAL dist install was back in the early Redhat days, like 1998 to 2002 ish time frame. So this has pushed me into learning to build an image. And that… I have also had no luck with, but its a start.

Subject: uConsole CM5 - LCD not working (backlight only) while HDMI works on Kali Linux

Hi everyone,

I am struggling with my new uConsole CM5 (Raspberry Pi 5) running Kali Linux. While the device boots and I have a working external display via HDMI and a working internal keyboard, the built-in LCD is not showing any image—it only has a backlight (it’s glowing black).

Hardware: * uConsole with Raspberry Pi CM5 (8GB).

  • OS: Kali Linux (latest arm64 image).

  • Internal LCD is connected, and the clockworkpi-uconsole-cm5.dtbo is present in the /boot/overlays/ folder.

What I have tried so far:

  1. Config.txt edits:

    • Set dtoverlay=clockworkpi-uconsole-cm5.

    • Set dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d-pi5,cma-384 (tried without fkms as recommended for Pi 5).

    • Ensured dtparam=i2c_arm=on and dtparam=spi=on.

    • Tried ignore_lcd=0 and display_auto_detect=1.

    • Set dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host (Keyboard works fine now).

  2. Cmdline.txt edits:

    • Added irqpoll to fix ā€œnobody cared (IRQ 165)ā€ Kernel Panic.

    • Added video=DSI-1:720x1280M@60,rotate=90 to force LCD initialization.

  3. System Updates:

    • Performed full sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade.

    • The LCD backlight now turns on during the boot process, but no image/text appears on the internal screen.

    • HDMI works perfectly and shows the Kali desktop/terminal.

  4. Software checks:

    • In xrandr, HDMI-1 is detected, but DSI-1 often shows as disconnected or doesn’t show up at all even though the panel is glowing.

    • EEPROM unable to update.

The issue: The internal LCD is ā€œonā€ (backlight is visible), but it remains blank. I previously saw some static/noise on the screen before the updates, but now it’s just a steady backlight with no content.

Does anyone have a working config.txt or a specific driver fix for Kali Linux on the CM5 uConsole? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven’t slept for 20 hours because I’m nervous about not being able to do it, so I must be making a mistake somewhere.

I’ve been having the exact same issues. I got it to work perfectly fiddling around with the SPI and I2C settings in raspi config, but after a power cycle it went back to being difficult. It happens with every image I try on the cm5, and started being weird after a normal update and hasn’t been normal since despite reimaging carefully. If you do find a fix, please let me know. My hardware seems physically fine so it’s confusing

Hi, SDR works great in Kali! Just install the aiov2 package from REX and SDR++ Brown!
