Lines on screen and replacement screen

Alright gamers, got a new screen & board, I plan to tape the screen in place to the casing with gaff tape, as other screen tapers have done in these threads

Yep, just put mine together, and I didn’t do anything particularly violent or forceful and I have a corrupted screen. I’ve reseated the cable several time, no dice, it appears I cracked my screen. This is a pretty poor experience - I am not sure we should be self assembling such an incredible fragile screen without some extremely dire warnings. I am not sure what I did wrong.

Before you replace the Pico in your PicoCalc, disconnect the FPC ribbon cable from the screen and remove the mainboard from the case. This was specified in another thread, but it can’t be stressed enough. Plugging a board into the Pico’s socket puts stress on the mainboard which then flexes enough to crack the screen. Another tip is to double check the alignment of the screen before screwing on the case back. If the screen doesn’t sit squarely in the opening, fastening the case back could cause …

Will try the new board w/o a Pi installed (it should do mbasic right?) and if that works I’ll remove the board from the case to install a Pi 2w.
Just posting in case there’s anything else obvious that I should do, let me know! I like to think I’m kind of careful but also cannot prove that I’m not just breaking these things so I’m down for anything.
