Picocalc screen - model number?

Hello all, I have seen posts about damaged screens, particularly if one swaps boards around. Well, I definitely want to experiment with different boards too. So maybe I should get a couple replacement screens, especially if they are not super costly on aliexpress. Can someone please share the model number of the screen so I can check where one could get that from? Thank you! (I do not have my Picocalc yet - so cannot check for myself).

Link to discord for the screenshots…

Guilty.
Emailed Alex and was told a replacement will be sent…no length of time given so…at some point!
Even offered to pay and got told it’s covered by the 6 month warranty?

Back to my Colour Maximite 2…for now.

Sounds like they are also looking for a more comprehensive fix for this screen issue, since it sounds like a lot of folks have had broken screens or screen connectors. Clockwork has always had good customer service though, so it’s awesome they are replacing all these screens since the’re probably eating all that cost.

Not sure what the actual long term fix will be though. Maybe we’ll end up receiving a replacement screen that’s a different (less fragile) model? There’s also a possibility they might do some kind of case mod that might hold the screen in better so it doesn’t shift every time the case is opened. Alex mentioned they were aware and working on it though.

Maybe tapeing the screen in place would be a good preventive measure

Taping the screen in place with electrical tape is what I did.

Just gotta be careful when inserting the Pico it could flex the screen if taped and cause a crack

I don’t swap out my Pico 2W at all, however if I were going to do that, I’d disconnect the screen entirely and remove the carrier board before putting in the replacement.

Yep, just put mine together, and I didn’t do anything particularly violent or forceful and I have a corrupted screen. I’ve reseated the cable several time, no dice, it appears I cracked my screen.

This is a pretty poor experience - I am not sure we should be self assembling such an incredible fragile screen without some extremely dire warnings. I am not sure what I did wrong.

Sounds like new orders may eventually be receiving less fragile screens. But until then, probably best to tape down the screen just to be sure. I’m kind of surprised it has gone on this long because I imagine Alex has been sending out a lot of replacement screens. Speaking of which, you’ll want to email alex@clockworkpi.com to get your replacement.

Here’s another thread about that, with recent updates:

But there are plenty of other mentions of broken screen on this forum, and on the discord. It’s a shame they didn’t at least start putting some little note in the boxes or something to suggest taping down the screen (and maybe supply the tape). Some owners have done case mods instead of taping, but that seems to be the simplest and cheapest route.

I reached out to a secondary supplier in China. The tooling costs are 50$ and its $7.44 + S/H for replacements. Idk if this is a valid replacement option, the ribbon cable / pinout is going to be the same seeing the ā€œtoolingā€ costs. Going to compare the replacement’s Alex is sending me and the one I ordered from the supplier to see the major differences.
