RTL-SDR Extension Board with USB HUB and RTC

I was thinking this one and make a cutout for the fan… but I’m unsure about clearance for the sink metal

this one has a neat guide for modding a fan in. it uses the GPIO as the connection

Im curious, you mention 433MHz, i though the Lora/meshtastic module was only 860~960MHz band ?

Aaaah ok. I knew Meshtastic worked on different frequencies, was just not sure about this specic module. The website for the extension board really only mentions 860 to 960. But after googling the chip itself, looks like it covers the entire range from 150MHz to 960MHz indeed! Happy times :slight_smile:

I’ve sent one 433 MHz version antenna with the same look to Rex. However, the on-stock LoRa antenna frequency range is 860-960 MHz. Yes, the SX1262 chip itself covers the frequency range of 150- 960MHz. But the front-end filter is designed for 860- 960 MHz on the module. You can use it with 433MHz. However, the performance is not as good as operating at 860-960 MHz.

Ah ok, that makes sense then. Guess if i build a separate “basestation” at my house (which i probably will if i start using it more), i could use that as a forwarder.

We have asked frequently if we can offer a 433MHz version of the LoRa. The SX1262 chip itself covers the frequency range of 150- 960MHz. However, the front-end filter is designed for 860- 960 MHz on the module. You can use it with 433MHz. However, the performance is not as good as operating at 860-960 MHz. To make your board work at its best performance, we can manually change the module to the 433-510MHz version, but that will require an extra $5(the module itself, soldering is not charged). I’m (for now) using a Wi-Fi-enabled LTE dongle, as a separate battery would power it and support other devices in my shoulder bag.

@vileer is it possible to cut the power to the usb 5V rail on the expansion board? Will save some ~300mA when the SDR is not in use.

Does anyone know where i can find definitive information about the Meshtastic frequency used in my country? I live in Panamá, and im finding conflicting info. Most places online i find 860-960 MHz, but when i asked in a Radio group here a guy mentioned 433MHz…
Does not help that my technical Spanish is basically non-existent for now..

915MHz according to this site.

And weird then that in an RF group i got the wrong advice. Maybe some locals dont know, or just dont care, and use 433 themselves.

I’m not sure about Panama but here in the US you have to be licensed to use 433.

Ghehe, in Panama things are all a bit less regulated. People consider laws more as guidelines than limits, haha. Also doubt there is anyone actually checking, as long as there is no major interference disrupting something.
But would like to work within the rules myself, even though there will likely be hardly anyone in the area i plan to use it.

Desolder this 0805 size 0 ohm resistor. And connect those two pads to a push-lock switch, then you can manually control the power of the RTL-SDR.

cool! is this the power rail or control signal for the regulator?
if it’s EN for regulator I can do the GPIO hack again (because I already added a switch, but only for a teensy attached to the internal usb 5v – I still want individual controls for SDR/teensy)

but anyway this is good news. I can at least have global control

what license would be needed for 433mhz i have a gmrs licenses

did a check and gmrs frequency range starts at 462 MHz so i don’t think a gmrs license would cover it
