RTL-SDR Extension Board with USB HUB and RTC

Just flash the latest image from Rex and everything will work as expected.

Mine must be in the same batch as yours. It’s now moving and I should get it Monday.

Whatever you did, it’s moving. I ordered PCBs from somewhere else and they sat in customs for longer than normal. It might just be US customs in looking over everything more closely.

I haven’t contacted the carrier yet. But glad to see it’s moving now.

That’s not the solution. I use Arch Linux ARM with dwm and everything works fine. RTC, RTL-SDR with SDR++ and GPS but when I want to activate LoRa and add dtparam=spi=on or dtoverlay=spi1-1cs to my config.txt than my display won’t work anymore. I have to remove these two parameters and it works again but than LoRa will not.

I had the same situation with an older bookworm image. It seems to be a incompatibility with the SPI and the display. But using the latest bookworm image and the package installer from Rex, this issue is fixed.

Big thanks to Vileer and Rex, I now have a working GPS with PPS → Chrony to give me an accurate time clock for digital ham modes for SOTA & POTA

Followed the newer version of the PPS reference: Revisiting Microsecond Accurate NTP for Raspberry Pi with GPS PPS in 2025 - Austin's Nerdy Things

Only real gotcha was changing the GPIO pin from 18 → 6 in config.txt

Great, I will update this to the PPS section of the guide.

Rex, I have watched in amazement as you work to resolve so many issues and bring so many features. I think everyone has benefited from all your work. I have fixed so many issues with your help. I don’t think I would have ever gotten Meshtastic sorted out. Do you have a Patreon account or something?

Can I use the 4g antenna as an SDR antenna because they use the same connectors.

No you can’t. The 4G is only going to use a limited number of freqs.

Can we get this as .pdf? This was awesome. Has some issues with Meshtastics, because of this I got it to work.

Vileer and Rex, thank you to both for your work on this combo. Almost everything is working as expected (and the AIO install script was excellent!), but I have one issue. I cannot get the frequency slot to stay set in meshtastic web LoRA config. tab. I have only ever gotten the “Error Saving Config. An error occurred while saving the configuration” message. Unlike the person who reported it in another forum, the freq. slot does not change behind the scenes. I’ve tried several times and through reboots it always reverts to 15. CM4 and a recent (two weeks ago) version of Rex’s Bookworm image. The only thing I can think of that is different on my system is that I used synaptic pkg manager to install Sat Dump. Rex, can you please help me I.D. where the issue could be or any troubleshooting steps (worst case, how to brute force it in a text file)? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the accolades!

I’m not aware of another way to change it but it is finicky. I can only change one setting at a time and save then refresh the page to have it really save. I’m sure there is a config file somewhere for it though and it would be as simple as changing that. You could try and remove, reboot and reinstall meshtastic.

I’m unsure if this will be helpful as you may be connecting correctly, but when connecting the Meshtastic Web interface don’t choose the serial option. Instead do web and put localhost where it says meshtastic.local.

He’s experiencing a known problem with spi and the backlight. When enabling spi with the CM5, it causes gpio to reset during boot.

That makes sense. I’m kinda glad I stuck with the CM4.
