I’ve gotten my uConsole working, and I can send SMS, data works as well, but I cannot receive SMS. (modem-manager-gui acts like i never sent anything to the device, and i get just ERROR
when using AT commands)
any ideas?

Like 4 months ago there was a few threads about needing to update 4g firmware… It’s a risky thing if you don’t know much about it … and you can not go back… but this might be something to read in to…
Did you follow this guide? I am able to send and receive SMS as well as making calls.
I stayed on 9001 firmware.
Hi! I’m having this same issue. @DeRock25 what did you end up doing to get it to work? Did you upgrade the firmware?
Seems like I can make and receive calls, and send text messages, but I cannot receive.
Also, if you upgraded the firmware, did you lose anything, like the ability to make/receive phone calls?
in the end I updated firmware, it was really just like 4 scary commands… but after each command I did get “the expected response” so… even if it was risky, it went off with zero issues. then I wrote a few scripts and added them to my start menu to start/stop 4g modem… in addition to refresh mmcli so it shows in modem manager… then I added modem manager GUI from synaptic… it isn’t chat windows for text messages… but I like it better that way… can send and receive calls with gnome calls… still gotta use the little headset jack… someone said that after updating firmware can link Bluetooth as input… but I have not found a way to do that yet…
Thanks for the suggestion @DeRock25 .
I updated the firmware to 9011. Initially didn’t seem to help. I decided to reflash my SD card with a fresh image and start from scratch. I stuck with NetworkManager and configured that for wifi and Mobile Broadband through the GUI (after adding the Panel item for it). I noticed that I had multiple options for Verizon LTE when selecting the APN. Originally had vzwims or something similar, and switched to vzwinternet. That at least got me on the internet, although it is really slow. That’s ok for now though because I just want to see that I can connect. Also found that I needed to Activate my Mobile Broadband connection in nmtui
whenever I wanted to go on the Internet with cellular. But whatever - I’ll get that sorted out.
But the SMS issue is still there. No reception of SMS messages. Tried Modem Manager GUI and sending is fine, but it refuses to receive anything. I wonder if there’s something about my modem settings that is causing this. Very curious if anyone knows of any specific SMS settings that tools like Modem Manager or Gnome Chats expects? I’ve tried
mmcli -m 0 --messaging-list-sms
as well. I just can’t get it to receive SMS. I think I am missing something. Any assistance from anyone is appreciated.
The 2 main things I could think of, sim card not inserted fully, or APN settings… which is gunna be the profile vzinternet sounds like its APN settings… cause It would explain your slow internet too… see if you can find a linux Verizon internet setup tutorial… this is why I went with t-mobile… I am sorry you had to experience my problems… on that note… make sure verizon isn’t the one restricting your speeds because the device…
Thanks @DeRock25 - good suggestions. I’ll try those out.
