Your Kungfu is greater than mine! I just successfully installed an application from source about a month ago! I installed WinLink for linux from source on my Panasonic tough book
Similar discussion is going on over here for an expansion board. Would be good to keep the discussion all in one place since all projects may benefit.
I dont know if ill be able to get it to work but im hoping it wont be too terrible if i get some help. I have been reading a lot but have never compiled a custom kernel outside of some minor tweaks when messing with Gentoo.
Edit:
I have been doing some reading, i may be able to use the boot partition and kernel from the official uConsole image. That seems like a good middle step to getting this working on the uConsole. Now i just need the hardware to test it and see how bad of an idea this is!
Beeper gets a uBlox, baro, mag, imu sensor deck. GPS needs some antenna rework, but I think it will track outside.
Nice fit … the small space format of the beep really is awkward for an add on… and those pins … they are not in the greatest place either… but you managed to get a board in there!
Hey has anyone seen this???
Yep, I’m on a couple other discords with the guy. Been following the development of it for a couple years now.
Message from SQFMI about the Beepy (Argghhh or whatever they are calling it…) shipping soon - all orders minus the pi zero already went out - units with pi zero shipping soon… the race is on what gets to me first … uConsole ordered in November 2022 … or SQFMI product ordered in July 2023…
exiting! I’ve already got the case printed! and I’m imaging the card now… - what size screws did use ? I have M3’s and some small UAE threads … how easy is it to change network settings from bash? what programs have you installed? - I have notes for putty, mutt, vim, weechatt… python (terminal IDE only)… node red… and probably MariaDB… (Just installed Node-red on the UniHiker and it’s crazy!)
Fyi - if you want to use the side button Blank screen and disable keyboard with side button · Issue #17 · beeper/beepberry · GitHub.
I pasted a blurb of code there.
I wanted be able to carry it in my pocket with the keyboard and display off while powered.
that would be my intent as well… thanks!!!
I used two M2.5x10 and two M2.5x14 screws. I’m using the slim case design that is on their github but I modified it to only use M2.5 screws opposed to using two 6mm plastic and four M2.5 screws.
I’m happy to share the files if you would like them.
Also, fellow Ham here as well!
thanks I just ordered the screws/ drill bit and tap… - already printed per standard 3d print file - I’ve built the microsd card and have a build file of programs to load… anticipating getting the beep before the uConsole. I have pat.io loaded on linux for winlink via linux but I’ve not used it via radio only via telnet… but I’ve done parks on the air on my Panasonic Toughbook (linux) I’ll look at what is printed - may need to mortify it with my drill press to accept the hardware I have on hand… if your in the south part of the USA Huntsville Alabama hamfest is 19/20 of August…
message me the link - I may encorporate a newer shell in ver 2… also uniHiker in my hands … I mounted it on cardboard for now … not sure the best way to mount it I’m thinking a clear case with a screen cut out… I have ssh working on it now and node-red! along with vim via ssh! uniHiker board uses m3 screws (eye roll)
Might have a new job in the data space in the next couple of weeks. My respect to anyone in tech facing layoffs this year. I am discovering that on-site and hybrid jobs have less competition and are willing to pay more in some cases.
Never stop pursuing what you love!
we should start a uconsole betting pool
bet on the day we receive our uconsoles
Fysa - awesome electro cannibalized refactor
Man the mood in the shipping thread is like an EKG. Update to the thread from Alex = high point, then it starts dropping off. About 8-10 days after the update a bunch of salty people move in and it drops super low. At about day 12 Godzil has to step in, showing the low point, then BOOP news update from Alex starts the vicious cycle all over again.
Not me I remain optimistic and hopeful - because basically I have no life and this forum is my only friend… actually I really appreciate all the work that the new users are doing to help those of us who have not received our purchase - meanwhile - thankful to have my DevTerm and working with the uniHiker IOT device. so I’m busy till the uConsole gets here… appreciate one and all the salty versus the sweat! best of the day to everyone on the forum…
