Look at slowing it to Gen2…
Gen4 = 8 to 10W
Gen3 = 6 to 7W
Gen2 = 4 to 5W

How does pi os’ labwc go with GPU usage?
Fantastic. I flashed stock Ubuntu and it was unusable. Rex’s Trixie image is fantastic
labwc is a wayland window manager inspired by the lightweight openbox
I picked one up because it looks cool as hell and is portable. I already was running a pi5 as my home daily driver so knew that I didn’t need the compute power. It’s been a great SDR rig and just general stash n go work station. Waiting on Vileer’s nvme battery board currently, feeling like that will be a huge upgrade.
I purchased the uConsole to use as a terminal for FT8 operations in the field.
Since my radio (IC-705) can connect to the uConsole via Wi-Fi, this turned out to be a very smart setup.
The SDR and GPS features on the AIO expansion board are also handy in the field.
I bought it mainly to serve as a handheld SDR. Sort of a Tricorder style test equipment device that could be used for basic signal analysis and fox hunting. As a replacement for a main computer I find it very lacking though, mostly because the display is so small as to be unusable for the Raspberian desktop. Something on my ever increasing list of projects is to get GNU radio installed and come up with a custom GUI that is able to be useful on the display.
I will do! Thanks, It doesnt need the MAX Speed anyways.
Im learning German and currently use it for Anki cards
Still hasnt arrived but I plan to try replace my phone
What about replacing your computer/laptop? That’s what I’m going to do.
For me, ever since the days of palm tops running MSDOS and windows CE when I was a kid, I have always wanted a reasonably powered UMPC(Ultra mobile PC). Today, we are finally starting to see some good offerings on that front. The uConsole is one. I got it for a handheld linux computer that can self host for native software development literally anywhere. I remember I used it in a work conference for taking notes, and with just USB power bank, it could easily run all day!
Clockwork is one company. TOI in this space is Planet Computers with their Gemini, and unfortunately named “Astro-slide” which is one letter away from a personal lubricant in the US.
Astro slide is very much like my old Psion series 5, hooked that up to a digital cell phone over serial and used dial up back around 1999. A great device, did a huge amount of work on it back then.
It’s a toy for me to play with. I like to pretend it’s more, but It really just fun.
Funny you mention the Psion 5, A lot of the engineers from that project formed the company. It is meant to be its modern replacement. I’ve always had an interest in palm tops and small computers. Hence buying all three of clockworks offerings. I didn’t get the game shell because I already had many.
Series 5 and Series 7 were way ahead of their times, the built in apps just worked, AA batteries lasted forever, and the keyboard on the 5 was good enough to really type (never owned a 7). I was hoping the Devterm would be close enough, but not really. I need to work on it more and see if I can make it better without spending too much money.
Got mine because i wanted a device i can tinker with and make it truly mine down to every detail be it hard and software. Also im a fan of its bad stats and glaring limitations, for me they are a bonus. Doesnt make noise with a fan, doesnt fight me when i wanna change stuff, build like a brick and most likely would survive beeing used to cave a skull in and thats without the upgrade boards. With them the utility of the thing are truly insane, a dream machine that sucks the way i like it. Sure, never gonna outperform even a mid laptop from years ago except you shove a cm5 into it, alone that it can do that is another plus even if i wont add this to my device for the next time, never gonna be as comfortable to type on as a laptop but a (in my case) 5TB industrial gameboy with so much utilty packed in is worth it. By now its my shadow, always with me and more loyal then my former computers, pure bliss…even if its a tamagochi with down syndrome compared to even a basic phone.
I’m sure you don’t mean any harm, but your comparison isn’t a good one for people with Down’s syndrome.
