When powering back up to 100%, should the unit be on? Screen went out after about 1h10m, ping to the unit continued to work for another 20 minutes or so, light still green, so waiting for that to go out before plugging back in.
powered on when charging back up.

Is it possible to force re-install/revert back to old 6.6 kernel from command line?
I posted the problem and fix in a earlier post.
thanks - I thought that was a specific CM5 issue (I’m on a CM4)
fails with “command not found” I take it it’s sudo apt reinstall clockworkpi-kernel ?
screen appears to be consistently back over a good few reboots so far…
Yes apt that was a typo leaving that out. Glad it’s working for you now.
Hi,
I have a new uConsole and a fresh CM5108000 (CM5 Lite, 8GB RAM)
When I try to start the uConsole, I either see nothing or the Clockwork logo followed by a few terminal lines and then it just goes black. Power LED stays green.
Any ideas what the problem could be?
I downloaded “ClockworkPi-Bookworm-6.12.17.img”, flashed it onto a 16gb sd card with RaspberryPi-imager.
EDIT: Nevermind. Right after posting this and I try to restart it again for the 50th time, it suddenly works!
On first boot the device will boot, resize the FS, create ssh keys, then reboot. This is normal and you don’t want to interrupt this process. Don’t use any custom settings with RPi-imager. The screen won’t turn on till the kernel loads the driver for it.
Has anyone tried this newest version on cm3 powered Devterm? I’m trying to decide if I spend money on that device or sell it. I like certain things about it, but I like certain things about the uConsole too and think the uConsole will win in the long run.
I ordered a CM3 and it’ll be here Friday. I’ll be getting it working for both devices on my images, not that I think a lot of people want or need it but for completeness. So if that sways your decision at all, there you go. lol
Thanks, I can wait a bit longer and already have the cm3+ installed. I was looking at cm4 for this device because all the cm5 are out of stock, not sure I want to spend the $80 on it right now and don’t want to swap my cm4 back and forth between the two just to decide the Devterm won’t do what I want.
Too bad the a06 was such a love/hate (mostly hate).
Is none of the official uConsole firmware being used in this image?
Or is there any way I can get the scroll feature or similar working?
The keyboard firmware is on the micro-controller built into the keyboard the OS has no effect on it. You’ll need to flash the newer keyboard firmware to use it.
Personally, I use the QMK firmware. It’s a bit tricky to install, but so much better than the original ! The trackball has a little latency, but is easier to use, on the other hand. Ho, and big advantage, you can scroll with « select »+ trackball instead of « fn »+ trackball.
UPD: while based on commit it seems like select + scroll should work on official firmware, after installing it didn’t for me. so it actually a plus for QMK firmware way.
on the official firmware you can only scroll up/down. with the qmk firmware you can scroll up/down/left/right.
Choose any:
- Simple uConsole keyboard flashing tool · clockworkpi/uConsole Wiki · GitHub
- GitHub - clockworkpi/uConsole: This code repository offers downloads for the latest images of various uConsole models, along with kernel patches, firmware for the keyboard and 4G expansion module, hardware schematics, assembly instructions, and essential technical documents.
do not forget to run it on uConsole itself, not on some other pc.
so in the end it’s an ethical choice between mono- or polyscrolling…
There are some other QoL improvements. Like being able to switch the arrow keys into a D-pad that belongs to the same group as the game buttons and back.
Hell yeah! Got it working with the QMK version. The Gamepad mode is also a big plus.
Thank you guys!!
