Hmm. This is my first time purchasing from Clockworkpi. Were they this radio silent for the GameShell, too?
I’m also a little anxious about this. There’s no projected date, no news, no changes to the site since I first found the DevTerm, and it being so close to when the site says they are/were aiming to ship, I’m having a hard time keeping the buyer’s remorse from taking hold.
well put it like this, as far as any of us can actually know they’re on track. just because there’s no big publicized news doesn’t mean progress isn’t being made. their github/the github repos of one of their programmers has been getting updated with lots of source code for the devterm printer and keyboard. having buyers remorse now would basically be having buyers remorse prior to finding anything actually wrong with the product you bought.
Oh I understand that. I’m just paranoid is all.
if april comes and goes with no news or shipping info, we’ll know somethings wrong. cpi and other small development teams often wind up going radio silent for periods during and after the production of a new product. it’s okay to not like that, but they and other crews have done it before and ultimately delivered. we haven’t gotten any bad news since it started development, in fact we’ve had reassurances that things are going smoothly on here, their github repos, and social media.
i think not everyone is aware of the different info that’s been coming out w/r/t development and production, so it makes sense for people to wonder what’s going on. but filling that curiosity in with paranoia and looking for bad signs only makes the wait generally more difficult.
Too quiet for a product in production. Not sure if the pre-order number satisfies them. If not, they should communicate back somehow. I am hesitate to pre-order, waiting to read the first reviews before making decision.
There will be news, sooner than later, please everyone stop being anxious. If the DevTerm is delayed for anyreason, that is NOT the end of the world.
CPI will give news soon, I’m pretty sure of that.
How many time have you ordered a device like that froma small company?
In the past I’ve worked for a company, we showed a product in january, they claimed it would be release in june, there has been a LOT of delay, some of our fault, some from suppliers and the product was release in september.
Things like that happen, and the company was bigger than CPI, and there were not a lot of communication, and if I recall probably some pre-order at some point.
Yes they could communicate more, that’s been sadly how CPI been working when they are under pressure. Patience is the word we all need to have. CPI is a serious company, small but serious. They always delivered up so far and kept their words, there could have been delay, or stock issue, but not everything is their fault.
So please everyone, calm down.
I’m pretty calm - I only have ~$300 on the line or so. However, I find it discouraging that two attempts to contact via email to update the shipping address (once Feb 10, once last Thursday) have received no replies.
That is combined with others reporting the same, on top of radio silence on both the product page and in the forums. They still have two weeks to fulfil the “before April” dates so I am not upset like I have been with failed/delayed crowdfunded campaigns, but I haven’t been given reason to be optimistic.
That said: I ordered a Gameshell on 07 JAN 2019 and got a FedEx tracking number on 23 JAN 2019 which met their “January” shipping window for that batch. There were a lot of complaints in the forums about their silence around that ttime and around the time of the first release and indiegogo campaign, too. Perhaps it’s typical and that they release on time but are quiet.
I would at least expect to see some pictures and video of a working gameshell in action by now.
I just want to say that I am a Dev and as most Devs we always face at some point the dawn of having to do documentation, thats our nemesis, I feel like creating content, and give updates is similar to documentation.
Knowing that, I want to believe that they are busy developing amazing things instead of taking time from the backlog to write stuff.
I, too, live in the cloud software world. For internal development, we can release things that has staff on-hand to maintain it internally while docs are developed, but for customer-facing products we don’t rely exclusively on the engineers. PR, sales, tech writers, customer support, and more all have to do their parts to make sure the tech is ready for customer consumption.
Sigh. Now I am remembering what Eric Cartman said about preorders once.
Waiting is a little anxious…
But I suggest we could think about how to use our lovely DevTerm device?
What project we want to accomplish by our DevTerm device?
I just got an email from Clockwork double-checking my order is correct! It looks like they’ll probably be on their way soon!
thats awesome! i hope you get your shipping info asap!
They must have SO MANY Individual emails to have to confirm. That would either be a very smart script that can check the contents of the buyer’s response, or A LOT of man hours, just sitting at a computer receiving emails; on top of all of the emails they no doubt need to sift though asking when the devterm is being shipped.
Either way, great to see that the cogs are in action at clockwork HQ! Thanks for the update @B0undarybreaker
I think it’s mainly because my order didn’t include a core board or an SD card, and they wanted to make absolute sure I knew what I was doing. I didn’t [^^’] so I asked them to add them in. Still, that means progress is happening!
Ordered on the 20th of November. No news about it yet.
Sounds like your order is all good, since they didn’t need to confirm anything with you! I’m guessing they’re fulfilling them in purchase order was made? Lucky you!
Can you share when you placed the order?
My order was placed march 1! I expect that they’re doing a step of verifying all the orders before they start shipping any.
