Retroarch Help for Uconsole Debian 6.12.1

I know this has probably been asked before, so please be patient. I bought a UConsole for my son and I to tinker with and learn more about linux (I haven’t used it in about 6 years). He is 11 and we are having a lot of fun with the UConsole. We put a CM5 in it, downloaded Rex’s bookworm file and now the only thing left is to get retroarch on there. We have searched here and have tried to get retroarch to work as an app and don’t want to dedicate the entire thing to Retropie, so we’re hoping to have it work inside the bookworm OS. Does anyone have a step by step terminal input guide that we can literally copy and paste to make this endeavor much easier.

Thank you for the assistance and sorry if this is already on here and I haven’t found it.

you can definitely install retroarch on debian, it’s not a problem.

but they had to disabled core downloader to avoid piracy claims, so you need to enable in setting menu “core downloader” and only then download cores.

google ‘retroarch download cores’ or check this: RetroArch - Debian Wiki

also if you are planning to use uconsole’s “gamepad” I highly recommend to install QMK firmware for uConsole keyboard as it has “gamepad mode”

You could try installing Flatpak and using that to get a base retroarch install. Once installed search for retroarch in the flathub appstore and then click on the down arrow on the install button and copy and paste the commands into terminal. Just remember to restart the uConsole after each install

I did sudo apt install flatpak and its nowhere to be found. any ideas?

will ‘sudo apt install retroarch’ work? i did it previously, but the retroarch app looked incomplete and didn’t have a ‘configuration directory’.
