Retropie on uconsole with desktop environment?

EDIT: I’ve posted my issues to the retropie thread instead.

After running “Install Pixel Desktop Environment” when i start the uconsole, EmulationStation is sideways. If i Exit ES, it restarts in the correct orientation.

If i start pixel, Wayland doesn’t work, but the non-wayland does. It starts up sideways.

How can i fix these issues?

EDIT: I’ve posted my issues to the retropie thread instead.

Here are the steps I took:

  1. Used Rex’s retropie image
  2. Used the native retropie tools to install Pixel.
  3. Ran “startx”
  4. empty DE started, “x” as cursor and not able to quite. Used power button to power perform
  5. graceful shutdown.
  6. Power on.
  7. EmulationStation starts up, but sideways.
  8. Starting “Desktop” from Emulation Station doesn’t appear to work, but EmulationStation starts again and is the correct orientation.

@Rex what did you modify to rotate the display in your retropie build?

Retropie has 3-4 different files you need to change rotation settings in. Our screen is native portrait so everything needs some kind of rotation.

The hard part is finding everywhere the configs are.

Cmdline.txt has one rotation setting. Then when you first boot it have a script ask you what device you’re running. The script changes a few I don’t remember what but if you look at the script you’ll get a idea of where to look.
