That’s why I was reaching out I’m like there has to be somebody who’s compiled a os that works and will let you install or has retropie pre-installed but can you point me in the right direction because I can’t find any links to any other distros aside from the OE distro on the Clockwork website wish thank God for that because the first couple times I tried to install retropie I had to go back and grab it
Get the v3 one and change the config.txt for the unconsole. That’s the most complete and closest to stock rpi distro you can get and everything’s already configured for the uconsole or Devterm.
I don’t mean installing a package will break the pre-installed drivers or whatever I’m saying the Clockwork image blocks updating the OS or any of its dependencies or whatnot if I sudo update right it’ll update like three packages and then the rest will say cannot update due to untrusted source and it will block every other thing from updating and I heard that they did that to stop the OS from breaking for some reason updating certain things will cause the Clockwork to not function properly is my understanding that’s all but again thank you for taking the time out to assist with what you can and it’s 100% all good man I appreciate you just pointing me in the right direction I’m assuming any Os from the community that can work on this thing is going to be better than what I’m currently using considering I can’t update it I can’t upgrade it I can’t do really anything with it aside from what’s pre-installed on it I will look into that as soon as possible like I said I used to have fun doing this and it would consume me and I just spend 4 days straight trying to figure it out and get it but I work 7 days a week every day I get home I pass out of my chair I’m so tired I was just looking Plug and Play have it in my pocket take it with me you know I gave my kid my pie 400 that I had preset up I have two other Raspberry Pi fours but one the SD card slot is janky the other one the sound stopped working for some reason got to figure that out and I just don’t have time for it anymore that’s why I got this Plug and Play Good To Go done thank you moving on but I’ll get there:-) again thank you so much for taking the time out to help me most appreciated
You shouldn’t have any problems getting retropie installed now using the v3 image. You can update as you please, I’ll also be providing kernel updates for at least the next year or so. As long as you don’t go out of your way to install another kernel or anything you won’t break the OS updating.
Faaaaaantastic my friend ty
Yep nope once retropi is on it got my 2 tb retro ssd on the go handheld retro station is 100% nothing will be changed or updated just need it to functioning as such
I was able to fix the screen rotation for EmulationStation by launching it with:
emulationstation --screenrotate 1 --screensize 1280 720
Then I also needed to edit /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
and set:
video_allow_rotate = true
video_rotation = 3
This is really really starting to agitate me. It’s nobody’s fault everybody’s been super helpful to a point I’m not a newbie to raspberries or Linux or anything I’ve had them since the first raspberry came out I was one of the ones that got it in the second wave after the first wave went out and crashed and it took almost a year to make more. That being said I got my uconsole so it came with retroarch didn’t work, I got the retropie script installed it wouldn’t install anything okay reached out everybody told me to download Bookworm and I should be good to go, did that downloaded the latest version with all these fixes and everything can’t install or update it the list folder is locked or something. Now everybody’s got videos of them running it, everybody’s like just do this you’ll be all set, can somebody please post the image they’re using and the step by step process of getting it to work on the Uconsole please there are so many people that have these and stopped using them because they got it for the same exact reason to have a pocket handheld and they’re running into the same problem of not being able to get it working it could just be me maybe I’m doing something wrong I followed every single guide that I could find and it’s like all two of them because everybody starts halfway through they’re like oh just download this and update this repository and you’ll be all set it won’t let me update the Repository or if I need to update it I have to unlock it first or do something there’s stuff’s missing every time somebody’s like you just need to do this and do this technical thing but we’re not going to tell you how we did it please a copy of the image and a literal letter by letter step by step process everybody says it’s not hard and it’s like a couple of simple steps I just need some help because this is driving me crazy I’ve been flashing images I’ve been trying every guide every reply and I’ve been manually installing all the libs and everything and whatnot and nothing seems to be working please help d8’-B thats my sad face
download the ClockworkPi-CM4-RetroPie-6.6.35.img.xz
from the link. flash to a sd card let it boot and restart, after it restarts make a username and password then run the command for the uConsole sudo retropie-device uconsole
then reboot
you’ll boot into emulationstation now you can shutdown and remove the sd to load up your roms or set it up to add roms another way. all the basic emulators that will run on the uConsole are already set up.
Were you able to get things working? I see you’ve been having problems getting it running for a while and I want to make sure you get things running.
I have not I literally just posted about my frustrations I installed bookworm on it and everyone said it should be fine and it just does the same thing doesn’t update half the things missing repositories so I asked if somebody could post a literal step by step not skipping any single thing to the letter how to. everybody posts these things and are just like then you just update and it’s fine that does not appear to be the case. I’ve been trying every how to I’ve tried multiple images they all have the same problem where it doesn’t update have to stuff with Bookworm I ran into the thing where it said the list folder was locked or can’t lock the list folder. But I’m about to grab it right now I just downloaded the retropie script on Bookworm I’m going to run it and see what happens. I’m assuming it’s going to be the same thing that happened with bullseye where I can install the script and run it no problem but when it goes to install the cores it runs like it’s installing everything and then at the end it’s like could not install anything.
I super appreciate you taking him a time to check in and help out👍
i’ve installed it on bookworm and it works. I would suggest the RetroPie image, it’s already setup out the box. it runs better then running it with a DE.
running the following on bookworm should get you up and running but I would strongly suggest the retropie image.
git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup.git
cd RetroPie-Setup
__nodialog=1 ./retropie_packages.sh setup basic_install
you might need to install these dependencies first
git lsb-release dialog unzip xmlstarlet
No I’m running the install script on bookworm and it looks like it made me working I will let you know if it doesn’t but what do you mean use the retropie image I have a copy of the image downloaded but that’s only if I want to copy it onto an SD card and use it as such.
the retropie image is all configured out the box. less hassle everything works, you just have to add roms.
I’m used to having to mess around with stuff but I can usually get it up and running after some fiddling with it maybe take a little bit couple days or something but for some reason man maybe it’s because of the fact I was just expecting it to be exactly like a raspberry and just work right out the gate I don’t understand why it has to be so complicated with this device but some people say it’s because they had to lock out a bunch of stuff because if you just updated as normal it breaks the drivers for the operating system which I get it I feel like they should have advised that though because a lot of people bought this thinking it was essentially just a raspberry and they were going to just use it as a pocket handheld with like zero effort and even said emulation stations installed on it prior lo and behold you get the device it literally has no cores or any out of the box way of running any games on it this weird but like I said I got the script running right now it takes a bit I will let you know as updates develope
I’m Wicked confused because when I first got this I was like it’s a raspberry I just flashed the retropie image to an SD card popped it in and nothing happened cuz obviously that was the first thing I tried then I was went to the forums and it’s like oh it’s got custom display and keyboard things and I was like okay makes sense and that’s why I ran into all these problems but pretty sure I got it going on right now
Should be good to go it didn’t install a menu or anything I’m assuming I just have to run emulation station from terminal or whatnot where is it 100% is not a problem as long as the functionality is there and whatnot I should be good i super really do appreciate all the help from the community especially you coming back and check in because everybody’s just like oh do this it works and I reply hey it didn’t work can you help me out and I’ve never received a reply from anybody so good on you buddy I really really appreciate it cuz this has been so infuriating ty
just let me know if you need anymore help, I want you to get the most out of your device you can.
