Unable to use 4G LTE (Timeout was reached)

Hello,

I followed the instructions at How to use the 4G extension · clockworkpi/uConsole Wiki · GitHub but I am unable to get past sudo nmcli c up 4gnet as instead of a new interface I get timeout. Also, I am unable to scan other networks (not sure if the command is supposed to work though):

mmcli -m 0 --3gpp-scan
error: couldn't scan networks in the modem: 'Timeout was reached'

Uconsole with LTE module from clockworkpi, cm4, stock antenna (plugged as per assembly manual). Any idea?

Thanks. j

I took the uConsole outside and it magically started working.

is the 4g antenna sticker directly on the metal case? I’m going to guess it has the same problem as the wifi one and that kills the signal

Yes, the manual says to stick it to the case and that is exactly what I did. I read about issues with Wifi but thought 4g/LTE was unaffected.

Most people don’t use the 4g I think, bought with FOMO and then it sits unused because there are other expansion cards out there now that don’t require paying for a second sim card.

So not as many people reporting those issues, but the physics don’t really change, so I assume it has similar issues

100% true. Put some plastic between the antenna and the metal case - it got slightly better. Also ordered LTE antenna from Ali.

Can you share the type of antenna you order, how you mounted it and how it works great at the end ?

Thanks a lot

there is goto solution for wifi antenna: Replacement wifi antenna - #118 by mex

someone also used two small antennas on both sides for wifi + 4g, but I can’t find the photo

yep I saw that but it is not related to 4G, enhance my question
