Update: uConsole shipping related

There should be no priority other than position in the queue. There was nothing - and still is nothing - on the website which indicates “large order” (or any other kind of) priority. If large orders are being filled first, then THAT is why the one-off customers (us!) are waiting for months. I’ve never saw here in the forums anyone saying such a thing about large orders; is this true or just speculation?

I don’t know if my understanding is correct, it seems that what 裕之(if I wrote it correctly) was talking about Raspberry Pi cores like CM3s and CM4s… I have read somewhere that most of the CM4s and new RBP5 are sold to large companies and large retail stores.

And since ClockWorkPi is a small company, naturally, it gets what’s left of them, so that is why ordering no core barebone unit is faster than ordering units with CM4 cores.

And as for who gets it faster, I think it has nothing to do with where you are on the list, they just ship whatever they have in their inventory. if they have silver ones with R01, the ship silve ones with R01, if they have black cm4 ones, they ship black cm4 ones.

I have seen silver no core cm4 unites being shipped with 26xxx and 27xxx order numbers, but black cm4 ones are like 23xxx…

So order barebone silver cm4 units, that’s from my observation. just my $0.02

It’s just a guess. However, it is not entirely unfounded. I don’t think the company can say anything bad.

We were fortunate to be able to secure CM4 cores in Japan. It is sold at a “rip-off” price on Amazon. I got it from an electronic parts supplier at a fair price.

Its a really big number, if we could get that amount x3 a month. They would catch up in a month or two. Hope you get your unite in this batch.

Of course.
It only creates shortages and it increases the prices of the products, which is what they want finally.
We should ask Alex how much more money we have to give to get our orders/preorders or ask a refund all together at the same time and bash the company.

Nice trap ClockworkPi, but if you wanted money, you should have call the correct price at first and don’t play two side games selling your devices higher priced to a tier on aliexpress for example.

This is not ethical, this practices has nothing to do with “open source” minded purposes and definitely using the internet community for beta testing the new features should be an inside job at your company as an R&D department.

Sorry but this is the kind of communication I want because it is a disguised crowd funding in order to set up a company. and not a preorder / order process

Understandable.

I think they should at least give us an option for a on-time delivery service, which allows some of us to pay a little bit of premium and get our device a little bit faster,

and for others, if they are cool with the longer wait (since this is not a productivity device, merely a toy-ish novelty device for fun), just pay the regular price.

But even that being said, I still think it is better than the Pocket Chip from Next Thing. I wanted to get one of these a very long time ago because phones are not allowed at school, and only found that a lot of people ordered but never got their device nor their refund.

And then some said they dumped the inventory to pay back their debt, inventory that belongs to a lot of customers who paid and never got their stuff.

So, ClockWorkPi is at least better than that, though they can do a lot better, way better…

Although the time is later than the prescribed number of days, there are people who have obtained the actual thing.

Okay, so I have finally received my uConsole from Chinese seller. The delivery took 13 days from the date of order. The package is the same, it’s content is the same (as on unboxing videos :)). Curious thing: the sticker on the box says the production date is 2022/11/9, but screen production date is 2023/11/9.

So obviously this delivery is faster than 6 months that I was waiting and finally have given up. Even though it has a bit bigger price and there is a huge question regarding warranty.

I have already cancelled my order here. I wanted to support Clockwork Team by making my order on their website, and waited speechlessly all those 90 working days and eve more. But… I hope that they can do something with their logistics and proceed working on their wonderful devices. And I now can focus on assembling my device (crossing fingers it works) and trying to do something useful with it and for the community.

Thank you for the follow-up. I have waited more than the 90 days they promised like many of us and just wrote an email to both help and alex to cancel my order. I wanted to support Clockwork directly too but considering the undetermined long wait, it just made more sense to buy elsewhere for the small premium.

I too have decided to cancel my order and purchase elsewhere…

These delays are ridiculous…

I am a pensioner, and in Japan I receive my pension in even-numbered months, so I can’t order again until next month anyway. In that case, the order number will be in the #29xxx or #30xxx range.

Just in case anyone missed it. Alex updated the original post.

UPDATE 27/5/2024
Hi guys,
A new batch is under production now.
This batch will be focusing on CM4 Black versions which are the most delayed versions, due to the long waiting lists.

UPDATE 24/5/2024
Hi guys,
Sorry for the long wait on the update.
We’be been focusing on the production, which has been an all-hands-on-deck situation.
A new batch of 480 pieces has been packed, now waiting for the shipping agency to collect.
This batch took bit longer than we expected, because firstly, at the beginning of May, the factory moved site. They needed bigger space, which will allow them to have more workers for the production of the clients’ products, which include ours.
Then, we had to fix an issue found on a new batch of the mainboards. The busy schedule of the factory in May must effected their work a lot. We had no idea until we tested a few kits.
We will be working on a new batch in not time.

Maybe I might finally get mine!

the highest order number for non-core silver is 27xxx, if i remembered right. so not gonna be long for you. And DHL from China to Japan is perhaps just 2 days max.

Here is the link

I sure hope they start shipping a lot of black units, I ordered black without 4G or CM4 core…

I was reading this to see what the future held for my order and was resigning myself to a longer wait. Then I looked at my emails and found a shipping note sent at 04:00 (UK) this morning.

My order has been shipped - 273xx, placed on Feb 27, 2024 - uConsole Kit RPI-CM4 Lite, Silver, WiFi only, non-core

So pretty much 90 days after ordering as promised. Hopefully there’s a big backlog being cleared and others will get their units soon.
