Update: uConsole shipping related

Last warning, any utter nonsense or discussion about the closed topic or troll or spam will be sanctioned.

Edit: for those who haven’t understood, this include other topics too. First infraction will mean a 24h silence on the forum. Further infractions will be more severe.
Edit2: abusively flag a post will be also result in sanctions.

People are venting frustration. They are excited about their order and are frustrated they don’t know when it’s coming. Originally, it was said to be coming in “three months”. That was 5 months ago. Fast forward, and we did hear coming it’s “mid-April”, then “mid-April” comes and goes and nothing. Then on the 20th, we get “couple of days”. It’s been two weeks since that “couple of days”. People have speculated about the time frame, tried to guess what what days and how many days shipment will be delayed do to alluded to holidays, but none of us know anything about when we will get our new gizmo.

So I don’t think it’s unreasonable people are frustrated. They burn off that frustration with commiserating with other people feeling similar frustration. They aren’t being rude while doing. They aren’t being mean. They aren’t being hateful. They’re just venting and they’re having fun doing it. Calling those threads “trolling”, closing them, and threatening participants is probably not going to have the positive outcome you think it will.

If you want to manage expectations better, don’t just tell us when you expect to ship. Tell us when we’ll have the next update. Even if that update is “hey, we don’t have any news, but we’re still working” is better than silence.

You’ve got a pretty nice forum here. I work in the game industry; I wish our communities were this kind to us and each other. The idea that you would shut down engagement between users acting like that is baffling to me. If we were to clamp down a discussions like that, it would just spill out to Reddit or Twitter, then we’d lose all control over it. But hey, you run your forum however you like.

“90 business days” is only three months if you assume that business days include weekends and holidays.

I want my uConsole too but I feel like part of the issue is a constant over-optimistic reading of staff attempting to manage expectations.

I don’t see saying “The shipping process of the first batch will be started in a couple of days, as promised.” and then not giving any updates for two weeks as equivalent to “staff attempting to manage expectations”.

Frustration is one thing, trolling or spamming is another. I’ve let people doing their venting for a long time, but there are limits, when things goes beyond these limits, it’s anarchy, and I cannot allow anarchy here;

Communication from CPi may not be the best, they still are communicating and trying their best are delivering the new product. From what they say they encounter production problems, the state in China with the pandemic has been disastrous, so it is not really surprising there are delays.

But yes I agree it can be frustrating waiting for something, that does not mean this place is a location to vent about it, or at least there are limits on how much you can do that, there are other people on the forum that don’t want to see such behaviour.

Asking for calming, three times, and applying sanctions when people are not respecting the warnings three time, is I think fair. And yes this forum is usually pretty calm and uneventful, that does not mean because it normally is, that I should let pass everything.

Your power is granted to help communication, not to amplify miscommunication.
This forum lacks a guideline (please fix that), so what you’re doing here is solely based on your own opinions.
Threatening people that they will be punished because you feel like to is exactly a kind of miscommunication amplifier I think we do not need. In a sense, you are trolling harder than us (not that I think I’m trolling, but your mind model obviously does, so I have to accept that).
If you think there is a limit, define it, and establish a consensus. Do not play like an adversarial authority that gets to decide what is right and wrong secretly.

Yeah honestly I think a good solution would be to lock this (or another) thread so that people that just want shipping updates can subscribe somewhere and people that need a social space can go elsewhere. This thread was kinda that before the other was locked. If people want a meme dumping ground give it to them, but leave a space that’s only for official updates for boring people like me that are just here for official news :slight_smile:

Once I have my device I’ll be more active with code/solutions/usage but until then I just need official updates. Surely I’m not alone in that regard.

My power is to make this a safe space and allow proper communication without this place transform into some form of anarchy.
I’ve asked to stop doing certains things, I left enough warning before having to act.

That forum have been running well for years, this is not the first time some action has to be made because people were not behaving, though nothing that far had to be done.

If you have any problem with how the moderation is done, easy, contact CPI and make your case clear on why you absolutely need a topic with random thing going against all basic rules on all forums.
This is not 4chan.

For the TL;DR, yes I’m in power here, I’ve asked people to calm down, they haven’t listen, I had to act, this is how things works everywhere where there is moderation.

Also and this is another warning, this is not the appropriate topic to discuss about that.

Nobody has said it is wrong to want to know what is happening. That’s does not mean that posting needy post everyday if not multiple times per day is a thing to do.

See this? This right here? This is an example of an overly optimistic reading. You read “the shipping process will be started” as “the units will be shipped immediately” but Alex told us exactly what the shipping process was in the very next paragraph.

There will be a period of time that we have to deal with the customs, to file the paperworks and then to wait for them to give us a green light.
There’s a public vacation right ahead in China, we will try to get all the works done before the vacation starts, but there is chance that we will not hear from the customs before that. Dealing with the bureaucracy can be frustrating, I’m sure that you guys can understand. We have authorized our shipping agency to do that.

If you’re frustrated, that’s understandable. I am too. But maybe don’t take someone’s words out of context in the same thread as their original post?

I’d love more updates, but if someone tells you that there’s a good chance there will be a delay I’m willing to take them at their word.

I have been waiting since 1/11/2022 and I trust Alex. I have DevTerm which I have been waiting for as well. They don’t have it easy.

FWIW, there are lengthy community guidelines for this forum. The guidelines directly mention:

  • Respect our forum. Don’t post spam or otherwise vandalize the forum.
  • Don’t cross-post the same thing in multiple topics.

Right? I don’t understand why people get so bent out of shape about these things. They placed a PRE-order on a gadget. I’m sorry, but anyone that spends their hard earned cash on a pre-ordered item expecting no intentions or the possibility of losing money or delays is just ignorant.
