Hello, and welcome to the Clockwork community! The GameSh> is an amazing little device, and we’re glad you decided to adopt one. Out of the box, it may seem intimidating, even after the initial build. The device is only as powerful as the community wants it to be! (Within the specs, of course) All are encouraged to hack, tweak, build, and write your own programs for use with the device, and share it here! The more time goes by, and goes into the unit the better it will become, and you will owe it to yourselves
I have created this post to link important information that is in the forum so that new users can easily find the topics they need to hit the ground running. Here goes…
First things first
Download a simple SSH client. (I use WinSCP… click here
I also recommend downloading PuTTy here (PuTTy can be run alongside WinSCP as a command line to input commands)
A free SSH app on the iPhone called vSSH LITE can also be used to run commands.
BEFORE WE BEGIN KEEP IN MIND THAT FIRMWARE 0.3 IS STILL VERY BETA AND UNSTABLE IN SOME CASES. I WOULD SUGGEST FLASHING THE 0.21IMAGE FOUND HERE IT IS WHAT I AM CURRENTLY ON, AND AS SUCH THE INFORMATION I POST MIGHT NOT PERTAIN TO THE 0.3 IMAGE. I BELIEVE NEW UNITS ARE SHIPPING WITH 0.3 PREFLASHED. I RECOMMEND TO REFLASH 0.21 TO AVOID ANY COMPLICATIONS
You can use a program such as ETCHER (CLICK HERE) to flash an image to an SD card.
MOVING ON
The RetroArch Megathread which was put together by @fr500 (applause) will help you get a nice version of retroarch running that has some superfluous things disabled. (The link to the tweaked emulators is dead on this tut so I posted a new one below) MAKE SURE YOU STOP HERE FIRST
So now you have good retroarch. But how do I ADD EMULATORS??
How to add new emulators is the next step. This was put together by @nouty and is a great tutorial on adding emulators to the Launcher. THIS GUIDE by @Metalcory will help you with adding icons and the thread has lots of icons to use!
Now that you can add emulators, change the graphic, lets add the gPSP emulator everyone wants! You can download that HERE along with some other libretro.so files that work well on gameshell. A PicoDrive emulator (SEGA GENESIS) has also been optimized for the GameShell. You can find that RIGHT HERE and we oew it to @elefas
GBA ROMS REQUIRE A GBA_BIOS.BIN FILE TO RUN
PCSX REQUIRES A BIOS FILE TO WORK/TO SAVE
A nice little tutorial on adding ROM files can be found RIGHT HERE
Resizing SD partition: if you would like to use a larger SD card, you can find some information on that HERE
So far, the best way to do it is with a Linux machine. You can create a bootable USB (an Ubuntootable is what I like to call it lol) by following THIS HERE
This is just the start of what will be a lengthy thread. If I missed anything, or you think
something should be added, let me know!
As always, happy hacking ^.^v
