HackerGadgets' uConsole Upgrade Kit - adding NVME SSD(PCIe), RJ45 Ethernet and USB 3.0 to your Uconsole

I asked the same a couple of posts up…

Also have sent a email about 5 hours ago about this.

I’m CET timezone, so I hope to get a answer soon-ish.

You order was marked as contain AIO v2 by mistake. It will be shipped out today.

hello Vileer,

That explains it!

Thank you!

No, I was reply to James_Kent, whose order was marked by mistake. For your case, the tracking page shows a tracking number, which means the package was sent to the courier agent and they are process it. For more details, I will need your order number or the tracking number which was not shown in the screenshot.

Ah I see,

I was contacted by Zoey Luo this morning and got this ;

Hello Edwin,

I fully understand your concern, and I apologize for the lack of update. And I’ve checked your package and the last shipping log of your orders is leaving the airport, and it’s on the way to you. Maybe the freight forwarder updated the wrong tracking number online, you can use this link to track your order.

The mail also contained a tracking link that shows a package in transit for 11 days..

Order number #4920

Zoey is the right one for the order status. So far, your package was fine.

Thank’s a lot, @vileer ! Everything works perfectly ! (with the AIO V1)

I just have a quick question: what is the “RPITX” connector on the adapter?

I have read somewhere that you can use this connector to transmit (radio) iirc it uses the pi’s oscillator, paired with some software to do so.

For transimit radio, like FM brocast. I have made it work on the Pi Zero 2W,but never get it work on the CM4. And RPITX is incompatible with the CM5.

when looking at mine yesterday I was thinking: How do you even replace the battery?! (I mean … should we just buy a new one with cables on… can it be replaced without destroying the whole thing?)

I think you bought the wrong variant, or I sent the wrong one. There is a variant with dual 18650 batteries holder, like the stock battery board.

Question for the group:

I have been making ChatGPT do some programming and answering questions for me… I have my upgrade kit and it looks excellent. Running a Crucial 2 TB NVME.

Has anyone had any repeat issues with the Kali that @Rex gave us? Kali has a great suite of pentesting tools and some SDR stuff that I plan on using.

If Kali is having any issues, what would be next best option? I tried Parrot for a while and kept having issues when installing alot of those Kali associated tools.

ChatGPT is also saying I can flash my CM5 EMMC, then just migrate the root to then run everything else off NVME. Having the initial boot on the EMMC, then Root off NVME and run all other traffic on NVME. How would I best go about it?

Then, it’s also saying I can dual Boot “easily”… just by changing the order at EEPROM, going from one OS to another. Having say, Bookworm on my EMMC storage, and Kali on NVME. Is this also true? Anyone tried it?

I’m still a noob at this. Any help would be awesome! Thanks everyone! Great boards @vileer !

Sorry, I was talking to my own bought thingy… was just wondering in general

I’d use Kali docker image and then orchestrate that with Claude code (or Codex, Gemini CLI)

You can watch a video about it from that NetworkChuck on Youtube. This is the way. You are using AI wrong tbh.

edit: no offense… just remember the word hallucination — it’s still a thing and you can not trust those long answers. Always tell it to do a research but I wouldn’t ask it the way you do. Might be right, might be wrong - and now you ask a whole forum if any of it is right. Better avoid this workflow if it depends on a forum to tell you what is right and what is wrong

edit2: figured it wasn’t that easy to find the exact video I was refering to… here it is:

worth a watch

Got the upgrade kit earlier today, installed it and everything works after I have changed the dtparam=pciex1 in the config.txt as described above (HackerGadgets' uConsole Upgrade Kit - adding NVME SSD(PCIe), RJ45 Ethernet and USB 3.0 to your Uconsole - #226 by Dale_Cousins)

Only one question remains - is it possible to charge the RTC battery from the supplied board? I do have a Raspi 5 chargable RTC battery here, with the incorrect plug. So I just cut the wires and soldered them directly to the solder joints which should work just as well. But can I charge it from there or should I rather get a 2032 cell instead?

Finaly.. plug my device.. took me approx 10 minutes… Let’s share what i did :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. Plug the battery kit… then plug the battery.. and notice 2 LED up.. hein ??… look deeper.. ho… it’s a warning… wow !.. reverse the battery.. i’m good… i like that !
  2. install the Flex.. didnt know on wich side.. until i notice 5v on each board.. and the flex.. again.. WOW !… can’t make any mistake here !
  3. plug the remaining kit.. and my SSD.. powerup.. remote conenct using the RaspiConnect (easier with a keyboard).. start SD card copy (it’s already on DragonOS).. and took me less than 10 min.
  4. shutdown.. remove SD card.. boot.. wow.. much faster !

So… well design product.. hard to make mistake.. and if so… LED tell you you did it.. again !

As i alreay CFG the BIOS to boot from this order : SD → NVME …

I then decice to re-start the copie from my SD Card “Trixie” instead of the one with DragonOS.. 10 min later.. i’m good !

Yes, you can charge the rechargable RTC battery as the regular Pi5 did.

Big help on the Claude suggestion. Got the CM5 flashed, and PCIE and NVME working perfect. Everything ran flawless… up until I went to install @Rex’s AIO package (which is awesome btw).

Package worked great on my CM4 until I switched to 5.

The drivers and dependencies for the AC1200 WiFi adapter were installed and working before I did the AIO package. Interface was working flawlessly. Decided to install the AIO package and now I can’t get it to work. I reinstalled everything for the AC1200. Still won’t function after installing that package.

Any ideas?

Does the NVMe work with a CM4 or is a CM5 required for the NVMe?
