seems like having cm4 module in the order increases delivery time
The only way you’ll get a response is to send email. Clockwork support doesn’t check the forums.
Thanks for a hint, will try email then
Order number 36057. Order placed on April 15. Configuration: CM4lite, matte silver, Wi-Fi only, non-core.
Response from ChrockPi:“Shipping time of uConsole is 90-business-day as on the product page.
That being said, there will be about 4 more batches to go before yours.”
welcome to the club: Update: uConsole shipping related
I’m wonder if it mean 90 days / batch.. So x 4 = 1yr?
I order mine too… Last week
The order number includes only PicoCalc, so with just uConsole it’s not actually clear. The response is merely mechanical, not taking into account the specifics of each individual case.
ClockworkPi seems to have outsourced manufacturing completely, and the company probably has no grasp of the situation.
So far it loos like there is a batch per month, so should be something like 12/y
Support says that shipping time is up to 90 days. And unfortunately it’s not UP TO 90 days, you can safely rely that it really will be 90 days (or f*****ng more)
Even more, you can easily buy all the stuff from Aliexpress with 1-3 days shipping time (but much more expensive obviously)
So sad.
It’s also not “90 days” it’s “90 business days”. So even assuming 5 business days a week that works out to be about 4 months minimum. If including holidays (of which there seem to be many in China, depending on the time of year), then it would be a bit more than 4 months minimum. And while it doesn’t specify, based on my own experience and seeing other’s posts, it seems like it’s more an estimate of when it will ship, not when it will arrive, so depending on where it’s shipping to that could be another couple of weeks added on. Probably best to assume about 5 months wait, and then maybe be surprised if you get it sooner, at least for a uConsole. The PicoCalcs seem to be shipping faster.
All that said, I think the devices are worth it, and a good value for the money, at the cost of time (and uncertainty of arrival time). It’s like a Kickstarter, but without the fear that it’s a scam. (You’ll get the device eventually, unlike some Kickstarter products.)
There are various reasons that can be speculated as to why shipping takes time, but it’s just speculation, and it’s frustrating that the real reasons are not disclosed. Is ClockworkPi searching the internet for itself?
How long will it take for delivery if I order without a core in matte silver?
When I ordered from AliExpress, it arrived in Japan in five days and reached me. On one hand, I’m happy, but on the other hand, I feel somewhat guilty. It’s not necessarily something to be praised, but it’s mentally easier than being anxious about when it will arrive.
don’t steal guilt trip ticket from clockworkpi, it their fault, not yours <3
What are the ali express versions? Genuine? The packaging and device look legit, and theblurb talks about clockwork pi- but theyre in stock and deliverable.
There are various speculations, but the hardware is open source, and it may be shipped by the same manufacturer as the official one. ClocckWorkPi has not commented on this matter for now, and the situation remains tacitly accepted.
the hardware isn’t really open source, the github files are missing quite a bit to produce your own
The most likely thing is that people in China bought quantities of them from Clockwork and are sitting on them and selling to anyone who is willing to pay their “premium” price. Clockwork has a long history of shipping delays for all their devices. And it seems like they only make them after orders are processed so they don’t maintain much, if any devices in a warehouse waiting to be shipped. There’s a chance bulk orders get priority over individual orders, or local orders get priority over the rest of the world since shipping is much easier for them. Any of these things could allow hoarders to simply “invest” in 25, 50, or hundreds of devices and then flip them for a huge profit since there seem to be plenty of people out there who are impatient and have deep pockets, and also don’t seem to mind supporting this shitty behavior.
The risk anyone takes from ordering from these third parties is not being able to get support from Clockwork, since you won’t have proof (invoice number and email) of ordering from them. Whether it’s a fragile PicoCalc screen that may break on assembly or case milling or board issues with the uConsole (which are not frequent but have been reported), you take a real risk if you’re paying double the price from a scalper and may not be able to get support.
