Integrating the lightbar into the back panel

You can get 3D prints to be smooth, depending on the resin.

But yes, as mentioned by @lasvegas, the stock case is injection moulded. Cheaper, and faster to do on mass, as long as you can make a mould/have the right equipment.

Well I hope the boys upstairs are taking notes. This mod is beautiful, and more comfortable than cutting holes out of the bottom.

I’d totally buy a legit one from CPI if they made one.

If you have to move the battery downward you’ll have to somehow make the cable longer, right? In my case the cable is just the right length as it is.

Such a shame the battery cable is short. I had a friend 3d print a back shell for me.

The stock battery cable is literally only millimetres too short for me to use it

Ugh… mine should arrive today. Good to know.

So, would I be able to get a longer cable at a local electronics store?

Yes and no. Your best bet is to get the connectors from your local electronics store and regular cables and DIY.

Sadly assembling the GS was (aside from assembling my PC) the most advanced thing I did with hardware.

(1) 位置不正确, 电池会晃动
(2) 太薄了,需要加固

(1) The position is not correct, the battery will shake
(2) Too thin, need reinforcement

I cut the battery box.

Nice!! You should open a new topic for this.

Has anyone tried this file? How does it work? Is it identical to the one above where you mentioned there need to be modifications?

I ordered one from a site online using xin’s stl, i will upload photos once i receive it.

Was a completely fail. Sides broke apart, the whole thing was too flimsy.

But this was corrected in the new version after I ordered my print.

Will order a second one again, after someone says it’s running smoothly and has the right cables to do the trick.

If they include a longer battery cable, i’d buy it in a second!

Thats giving me business ideas

Yeah they need to sell a longer wire. The DIY portion of the connectors just doesn’t fly… especially being modular. They should have variable lengths available.

All that aside, this is a great idea and I can’t wait to see some of the pics

I ordered @xin’s design through Shapeways. It cost me a little under $40 (with shipping) and only took 9 days to get it delivered. It works beautifully! The only criticism would be that it needs divots added for the lower wire anchors. It feels and works great! (Forgive the hairs… I’ve got shedding Chihuahuas!)

Oh wow, what material is that?

It’s Nylon with a black coating. It turned out very solid and feels good. I’m just concerned about how it will wear…
