Super handy (at least for me) for troubleshooting headless stuff like Mac mini, server and Mini-PC. Demo vid here. The uConsole needs to install open-source app Openterface_QT.
So, your thoughts? what should i add on this board? any cool features u wanna see? Also, consider supporting my open source dev on this Thx!
Right… that really got me thinking. you’ve got a point. I’ll look into it tmr, see if i can come up with a version that adds an ethernet jack. Sounds useful for fieldwork setups too…
I have one of the ethernet boards on order now, but I would gladly store it if I could get kvm and ethernet.
Had mine in use today with a usb ethernet hub thing trying to figure out a problem with a switch. Minicom is now my tool of choice for serial connections, but part of the work can be more easily done with the web gui, so I hook up both.
My only disappointment is lack of gigabit ethernet, I have some SFP+ based switches that won’t work at 100mbps, bit 1g is fine.
I love this and the concept and I think is extremely useful.
I fully understand the work and effort put behind it and I’m not saying this as a bad thing, I would love to buy it, but the price seems a bit high
yo thanks for sharing the details i’ll see if i can build it in a clean way & will keep you posted! appreciate the input a lot def hit me up if you’ve got more ideas!
yep, totally get you & appreciate the kind words
i know the price might feel a bit high, but hey, there’re other ways to contribute too! if you’re up for helping out as a beta tester or getting involved in some of our events, we’d love that, who knows, maybe a freebie could come your way if you chip in on the tech side of this open source community
Hi Billy, thanks for understanding
Even though I don’t consider myself a developer I know how to code and would be more than happy to try and help with coding testing or to test/troubleshoot this board or firmware updates
Part of the price is the component cost, if you are buying 10 or 20, you get one price from the resellers. If you are buying 10000 you have the option of buying directly from the manufacturer and cutting out the middle man costs, as well as volume discounts. None of us making devices for these computers are going to have the up front capital to buy the large quantities needed to get bulk discounts. And then you have a huge amount of waste because you are only going to sell a few hundred units.
I’d also like to point out the intellectual needs to design these things, if it was easy, all of us would be doing it. You are paying for their intelligence, as well as sticking their own money into making functional prototypes.
I’ve done things like this in the past, it’s rare to sell at a low point and not lose money, especially when you factor in $10 an hour for your time (and $10 is very low for this kind of work).
couldn’t have said it better! the small batch reality is rough… between parts, prototyping, time, and all the hidden costs, it adds up fast. But we’re definitely trying our best to keep it sustainable and open. Appreciate you putting it out there so clearly
Does hdmi port support both input and output? Or only input?
Because miniHDMI in uconsole is inconvenient when connecting to the monitor.
And i want to know that it is easy to move or copy files in kvm mode.
And if I order this expansion card when can I get it?
hey! that HDMI port is input-only. It’s meant to capture video from the target device.
but your question’s got me curious… why would you want it as an output for the uConsole? is it that the built-in screen feels too small sometimes, and you’d prefer to plug into a bigger monitor? totally get that if so
btw, if you’re wondering how the switchable port works, you can check its docs out here
and the shop page with more info is here
Calm down, and I think it’s a great card as a KVM. So I’m also interested in the product.
Just until now, I have bad eyesight, so I have often connected the uconsole to the monitor and used it.
UCONSOLE basically supports MICRO HDMI function, so I always need a gender(micro hdmi to hdmi) like the picture below to use it on a regular monitor.
And even if there is no output function, I am very interested in the kvm function, so I asked how long it would take to order.
example.. clockwork said that “If you order a uconsole, you can get it after 2 months”, but I got it after 9 months.
So I asked when I could get it if I ordered it.
Next up, we’ll do CE, RoHS, EMC tests and get some nice packaging and a quick-start guide ready.
I’m feeling pretty confident we can deliver soon, definitely not a 9-month wait like with some other gear and of course, we’ll make sure it “just works” when it lands in your hands.
