Wen ship? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bombed the DP-203 Microsoft Azure Data Engineering Associate. I was doing quite well on the practice assessments. The actual exam questions were in a different format than what I was expecting. I didn’t fail by much. I guess it was just nerves and my own expectations of myself. Lessons learned…

Just when we get used to CI pipelines with GitLab, Git Runner, and Docker; management says switch to Azure. Let us be reminded of the Microsoft way. “Embrace, encompass, extinguish…”.

But seriously though, Azure is kind of neat.

Sorry Man - those testing centers are a bit unnerving as well - I have a CAP - Control Automation Professional Cert from Instrument Society of Automation - it was way different than the study as well… but I fell back on experience and somehow managed a pass.

this wait has been a real bummer

I’ve been kind of away for 5 days - working on my datebase/node-red/Graphana project - took me DAYS to figure out how far I had gotten… if only I didn’t have to work ! I would get so much done! now tell me all I missed !!!

Rpi4 in stock at retail!

Mouser $75, Amazon $66… gone are the days of a pi3 for $35 or $40… they’ve priced me out of building pi based systems - add keyboard, screen and mouse then I can just use a refurbished laptop…

Use RPI Locator to hunt down who has what in stock and at what price. Not perfect but pretty damn good. Allows you to filter by location and type

That’s MSRP though. I feel like for the much better performance and connectivity, which allow for much more versatile usage and applications of these devices, 60 bucks are easily worth it.
I couldn’t use the original Pi for many of the purposes people said it was capable of (like media storage and such… remember, USB 2.0).

As long as these things are available for MSRP, I think they’re great for a lot of applications. As soon as they cost more than 100 (without having more power / capabilities / …) due to scalpers, it makes no sense because you can get a used x86 machine with SATA and more for that price.

I’ve not experienced the performance difference of the Pi4’s the ham radio community I’m apart of have been using them for Parks on the Air. I have power shields that would make them compatible with the 12 volt systems I field - so much appreciation to the foundation for keeping the units compatible at a GPIO level. I also have several BitScope Uno backplanes that I like to use. The compute module approach makes a system where upgrading the cpu requires just replacing the processor (closer to tower computer modularity) The Panasonic Tough book i5 pro I purchased last year used at Hunstville Hamfest along with a SSD hard drive has made a great Ham Radio portable computer - I’m sure power consumption is much higher - but I have a 12 volt car charger for it so it is a portable system and I’m able to run two screens and the parks on the air software along with FLDigi … I use the i86 Rasberry Pi build so the look and feel are the same (under the hood it’s debian) so building from source and installing from .deb are reasonably straight forward.

Oh the Pi 4 is great, I meant that the “original Pi” (i.e. Raspberry Pi 1) never really had the power for things like NAS and such, so while it was cheap it was also very weak.

The compute module 4, while in a fancier form factor, should have the exact same performance as a Pi 4.

While Pi 4’s cost about double the price of Raspberry Pi 1, they are so much more usable, therefore I feel like (provided you get them at MSRP) the price is worth it.
