I‘ll look for a way to use it with logseq.
NO SOFTWARE ONLY EMACS
I don‘t know if I‘m impressed, afraid, or both.
Both? Both! Both is good.
Took the DevTerm out in the ‘field’ today - screen (as is most) is hard to read on a sunny day - also the screen lock up issue occured - but since I had an external monitor plugged in I was able to operate the machine - for this application I’m going to migrate to a Panasonic tough book with an external monitor and use the clockwork product line indoors. The Ops Frame add on did allow use of a strap to keep from dropping the unit… DevTerm is a neat device but the wide screen and wide format is not as usefull as I had hoped… (but I love the printer - working on getting a generic thermal printer working via CUPS) the uConsole with it’s narrower profile is looking like thumb typing will be easier… Took notes tonight in a class on my DevTerm in low light looking forward to the backlit keyboard
What kind of os can we install on the CM4 lite? I wonder if ubuntu can work on it…
yeah, you can run ubuntu on a cm4
thanks! So I hope Kali will work too!
Pretty sure the arm dev ordered one.
As long as it’s not doing stupid stuff with the hardware(looking at you reTerminal), it should “just work”.
I’ve never got such of pocket computer like uConsole ever, so…
- Try out games on the Steam (direct install and remote play)
- Try using it as a portable terminal (SSH/RDP/VNC etc)
I already bought new microSD card and batteries, so I’m ready.
I can’t wait.
ha sorry
that (boring!) need has been since filled with the gpd winmax2.
uC is then repositioned as an experimental playground.
maybe I’ll finally try Arcan this time: https://arcan-fe.com/
seems quite fit in every aspect actually
Remote play would definitely work on the CM4.
I’ve seen videos of Raspberry Pi 4s running programs in Box86 + Wine, and I would recommend adjusting your expectations to well under modest. It might run older 2D indie games and 3D games released before Y2K, and that’s under two compatibility layers (Windows/Linux, x86/ARM) so expect bugs aplenty.
Thank you for info!
Yes, I knew Steam remote play works on Raspberry Pi, and will works on uConsole, I hope.
As you said, uConsole has limited processor power and needs some compatibility layer, so modern games will not work I guess.
Considering the use of a built-in gamepad, I think some good old games would match, like Megaman series.
Oh, Retroarch is awesome on the CM4. I have a Raspberry Pi 4 in a bartop arcade cabinet and it plays everything pre-Dreamcast flawlessly, and does a decent job with Dreamcast games too.
If you’re looking to play NES, SNES, GBA and PlayStation games, I think you’ll have a good time.
Ham Radio Field Day is June 23-25 - lots of the planning effort is underway - its a big deal for our local group - camping, meals , antenna and radio operations - Linux and Raspberry pi’s are going to be out in full force - I’ll Have my DevTerm or uConsole (depending on delivery out there) also we have planning documents - these hand held devices are very useful - need to get back around to loading the printer files so I can use a larger format thermal printer. One of the advantages of the Uconsole is the metal case - early on I used a raspberry pi for a VHF beacon but every time the radio would transmit the pi would reboot due to RF. the metal case will provide some protection from that issue.
It would be a good experiment to listen to radio with this device.
The uConsole has a full-size USB-A connector and can connect an SDR dongle without difficulty.
And the software that controls and visualizes the SDR will probably work as well. (Gprx, Sigdagger, SDR++, etc.)
These are interesting attempts.
I need to get a high gain antenna
I’ve listened to FM broadcast radio on my SDR via Gprx through the DevTerm…
As a total noob to SDR but am curious about it, do you think something like the NESDR Nano would work with the uConsole to start out with? How do these things deal with heat?
Start out with an rtl-sdr. If you think it’s fun, then upgrade.
ARE YOU THE KEYMASTER? no but he uses Emacs and riddles people with regex so basically the same thing…
