When should deliveries of PicoCalc start?

Yes I’m afraid. Pretty close to the current state though, note some sections don’t apply to PicoCalc and the very handy function asc() is missing.

There is a list of changes on the backshed (“changes to b18”)

Best to start a new topic if you have more questions as this is regarding orders/deliveries…

That sounds unlikely since Z-MIM uses it and Z-MIM is confirmed to work on the PicoCalc.

Best wishes,

I finally decided to install my screen replacement. Thanks for posting that picture and noting the light feed. I didn’t have any nice electrical tape, but I had kapton tape about the same width, and that seems to have worked fine. I considered doing the top as extra precaustion but ended up just doing the sides. I was still holding my breath when I put the final screws in, but everything went fine. Given the tariff situation, I figure my chances of getting another screen, or another PicoCalc at this point are slim to none. Hopefully that will change at some point in the future, as having a second device seems like it could be really useful (a dedicated Lyra and a dedicated Pico).

I’m going to keep the Pico2W in there for the time being, but this should make it less stressful to swap the Lyra in at some point. I also have a ESP32-S3 that works in it too, but since few Arduino projects seem to exist for the PicoCalc, that’s definitely going to collect dust for a bit. I still have my own ideas about using it, but those can wait.

Hi Ariel, I’m very curious about the orders arriving to Argentina, please post updates (los Argentinos ya sabemos como es la aduana… jaja, aunque no sé si ahora es distinto) Regarding the times, since release of picocalc they delivered first orders and then the first batch started which covered orders approximately from 33XXX to 37XXX, so I guess 200 to 400 picocalcs are built per batch, but its all assumption as the order number is mixed with other Clockwork Products so I would say is more close to 200 per batch.
To be honest I expect more than 30 business days as I’m already 23 business days in my order and I have no shipping notification yet.

Also, if its useful for someone Business Days Calculator – Count Workdays

Hi!
Yes, of course I’ll be posting updates. I’m reading the forum to learn more about the device while I wait.

I’m planning to use it with MicroPython, since I’ve been using Python for the past decade.
I don’t mind using BASIC (it was my first language), but with MicroPython I could port several things almost immediately.

P.S.: Are you also in Argentina?

If you plan to use MicroPython there are a few projects about that, you should check the forum as there are certain pico boards for different OS.
I’m from Argentina but I’m living in Europe at the moment.

Sorry for the offtopic.

It’s possible to run basic on a linux OS - but it’s compiled , (same goes for Fortran)

There are a couple of different options for Basic on Linux. However, I have to ask the question, what Linux are you talking about? If you mean the Linux used for the Lyra board that some are using in the PicoCalc, the answer at this moment is no, although there is a work around. If you are talking about a Linux desktop computer then you are in luck;

Bywater Basic: Available in most distros, but it is terrible and outdated.
FreeBasic: If you want to compile your programs into stand alone apps, this is what you need.
MMBasic for Linux: Interpreted Basic, well maintained, the author hangs out here and is a really nice dude.

MMBasic (for Linux) also builds and runs on the Lyra. (Though it’s not PicoMite or WebMite, so it will be missing specific functionality to those, like GPIO, WEB access, etc.) I never got around to doing a proper build for it, but I did run a quick build as a test and the usual stuff worked like the editor and it was able to run simple programs, etc. I imagine the graphics stuff would work too, but didn’t actually try it.

MHam68HC11, This is the work around I was talking about.

I ordered March 17, nothing. Well past the 30 day mark (although I did not expect it to make that)

How did you get it compiled? I seem to remember you said you compiled it on an old Raspberry Pi. What Pi did you use? I have several laying around here dating back at least 10 years.

I used a really old one. But the processor was compatible (though the compiler was maybe not as optimized as it would have been for the Lyra).

Here’s the binary, zipped up if you want to test. I remember it took quite a while to build on the Pi, but there weren’t any errors or obvious issues with the build. And the command line stuff over SSH seemed to work fine, including the editor. I didn’t try any video or audio stuff though.

Kinda lends weight to the notion these things are sent out in batches as my 14th March order 345xx was shipped at the 30 ‘workiing’ day mark… Fingers crossed yours is shipped in a few days.

But I am not unhappy yet. The early receivers can start tinkering and exploring and document their findings. Deal?

Sounds like a plan. Would also be good to know when people start receiving the upgraded PicoCalc devices with a fix for the fragile screen assembly. Clockwork said they were changing something at the factory soon, and I’m curious if they will be shipping different screen hardware, or if the case design is changing, or what else might have changed.

I’m potentially interested in getting a second device, but if I do I’d prefer it to be the “improved” one, depending on what was actually changed. It also depends a lot on the tariff situation because I don’t want to have to pay double or more, no matter what the upgrade. So posting about actual changes to cost when shipping to US would be good to know too!

what makes you think they are redesigning the picocalc did they make some sort of announcement about the upgrade. sorry im not so up to date with whats happening

Alex mentioned it in an email exhange I had with him about my screen repelacement after it arrived. (My replacement was the original screen hardware.)

Here’s exactly what he said. So it’s unclear if it will be new display hardware, but it sounds like something will be changing. That’s why I’m curious to hear what is different when people start receiving whatever the new thing is.
