Oh my stars, it’s beautiful. Which do you prefer?
The uConsole and DevTerm are still my favourites, the Beepy is more of a toy or novelty really, its hard for it to be particularly practical as typing on it can be a bit of a chore and the screen is so tiny and monochrome. I hope a little monochrome fantasy console ecosystem pops up around it though, a bit like the Playdate.
I was thinking the beepy would be really cool for little coding puzzles like the euler problems, or maybe a text adventure. The uConsole I really like for the ability to use pico 8, and the fact that with the mobile module I can make my own sci fi communicator. Which yes, way more impractical than a phone but so much cooler
You can connect a bluetooth keyboard to it when you want to do serious typing. But I agree it is a toy. The keyboards on the DevTerm and on the uConsole have issues also for any serious work. Lots of personal preferences here, but I like the touch of the DevTerm but not the spacing. I like the spacing of the uConsole but not the force required for each button. I did a simple mod to the uConsole keyboard to reduce the force required, but the R-01 module is also is more of a work in progress. Have the CM4 adapter on order.
I burned up the tps61030 on mine. Mouser stocks them, and that part is pretty easy to reflow.
Two minutes of hot air and it was as good as new.
You beat me to it! Just got my uConsole, still waiting for beepy (shipping notification says it’s been mailed on August 14) but I’m not in a hurry, since I have not figured out what I’ll do with this thing
I Wonder when beepys will be available again …
They have a mailing list for it, which is super helpful
Looks like they have a hurricane in their area too. I hope all is well
I just check on eBay, and I can order a Uconsole twice the price, and get it in two weeks… I think cpi send items to aliexpress and eBay in china before international customers who have to wait more than 90 days. I hope I’m wrong!
The aliexpress and eBay* listings are probably scammers who don’t have the device yet either. It’s unlikely it will ship before the regular shipments from Clockwork Pi.
*Well, except for that one selfish/predatory guy that admitted on the forum to buying a uConsole and trying to sell for a ridiculous price on eBay. Hopefully there aren’t too many assholes out there.
But I think anyone trying to flip them and make a profit is in the same boat as the regular customers – it’s just order number, configuration, and luck determining when you’ll receive it.
It’s been a while since Alex show up here, I believe everyone is missing him
Indeed, more than the usual 2 weeks. An update would be very welcome!
it has been 3 weeks since last update
And perhaps an update with a few words about the expected batch number according to the order date or number or unit type.
I’m not particularly in a hurry but I like to know.
Mine is 200xx on oct. 31st for a CM4 lite and only wifi unit.
It’s about time for the next update, but it seems to be delayed. I’m guessing it might be because they’re preparing to announce the shipment of the third batch.
Of course, it’s just my speculation; I have no idea what’s actually happening. I still have a long way to go before I get my item
That must be the tool that has the already built uConsole posted for $1600 USD that i keep seeing. Shameful.
I see one listed on eBay open box in Michigan for $599 what a deal! i should have ordered 3 and if they do ever ship i could sell them and retire! I should make an offer for $200 and see i they take it.
i am starting to have a bad feeling about this, i’ve funded the planet computers’ astro but it never come to fruition, planet computer was delaying and lying about the progress, they virtually failed to make every update on time, at the end they blamed that odm in China (yibin electronic) took all they materials and design and refuse to fulfill the production and refused to refund. Now similar things are happening to the uconsole… delays and delays not be able to keep up with promises, i have a feeling that what’s going on has one way or the other connected to the China’s economic situation. i don’t want to lose my money again , if it happens it might be a sign of something worse coming.
I think that is a bit dramatic, people are getting their orders batch by batch, Clockwork have never been the fastest at shipping products even when they aren’t being launched - it took me quite a while for my GameShell to arrive.
